I was lucky enough to get on the original Xbox Live Beta and was hooked from Day 1. As well as playing lots on Xbox Live I spent a lot of time on various Xbox forums around the world helping others get connected, troubleshooting their problems, and providing advice on what kit to buy to get connected.
This approach was ok for a few years but as Live became more and more popular I found it impractical to keep posting the same information all of the time, it was too time consuming.
So XboxLiveTheGuide was born, we put together a website and uploaded all of the frequently asked questions, diagrams on how to connect, advice etc etc. This worked great for a few years and was very popular, but I found over time that I'd outgrown the design of the site and I was trying to make it do things it simply wasn't designed for.
In 2006 I approached Freshstudios and asked them to design a brand new website for us which you see on our main site today. XboxLiveTheGuide is a roaring success and regularly praised by the Xbox Live community, the site regularly receives over 2 million hits a month from all over the world.
The down side to such success is cost, bandwidth cost, every gigabyte of traffic sent costs us money, and boy do you guys like to use it, more and more each month!
Whilst I've always been happy to provide my services for free by creating and updating the sites content and helping others via our forum for free, I simply cannot afford to continue to pay for the ever increasing running costs of the site out of my own pocket - would you?
So I was faced with the prospect of closing the site which would be a great loss to the Xbox Live Community, or trying to raise some cash to pay for the monthly running costs. To do this I have taken two of our guides and created a new Xbox Internet Sharing Guide which we charge a small fee for. It is hoped that by selling these guides we will be able to pay for some of the running costs of the main site. Meaning we don't need to close it.
Your purchase goes directly into paying for the running costs of the site, so we can keep the site we created for you gamers running
